The question was asked about dragging and dropping PDF's from Windows Explorer into Vault, as opposed to using the method outlined in my previous post, Adding PDF's to Vault. Yes it can be done but it's like the inevitable question, about using buttons to start the command or typing the command in. It's a personal preference, however keep in mind even though you have added the PDF to the Vault the only way to "check it out" is to open the Vault Explorer and find the file and select Check Out. In addition, the PDF is read-only anyway so I guess it a moot point, right?
By the way for those of you that may be asking yourselves, if a PDF can be dragged and dropped into the Vault, then could I do that with a drawing. The answer is yes. You could also drag and drop all of your data files, like Excel, Word, etc.
There is an slight issue with dragging and dropping drawings into the Vault. For instance, if I have a drawing (Grading Object.dwg) that has a surface in it and I drag and drop it into the Vault, the drawing will be checked in but the surface does not show up in the project list
(Surface name: Grading). I found that in order for the surface to show up in the project list you first have to rebuild it. Once that is complete then Civil 3D will give you the option to Check In the surface to the project.
